Assemblymember Valencia (D-Anaheim) Releases Statement on Proposition 22 Ruling

For immediate release:

SACRAMENTO, CA – Assemblymember Avelino Valencia (D-Anaheim) issued the following statement regarding the California Supreme Court’s decision on Proposition 22 (Prop 22).

“The recent court ruling is disappointing, but it underscores the need for greater innovation in the gig economy, particularly when it comes to solutions to protect gig workers who are living in poverty and struggling to make ends meet. Lawmakers have a responsibility to uphold basic workplace standards for the well-being of more than 1 million California gig workers, as well as the future of the gig economy.

I stand in solidarity with gig workers. Together, we will strive to create a fair and just environment for every hardworking gig worker.

We can make genuine progress in this space by expanding the rights of gig workers and making sure they have a seat at the table, and a say in their future. In the legislature, I will continue to champion policies that protect all Californians and I look forward to being part of those discussions to advance our communities across California.”
