About Covered California
Covered California is the state’s official health insurance marketplace under the federal Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. In partnership with the California Department of Health Care Services, Covered California helps individuals and small businesses access private, high-quality, and affordable health insurance plans that meet their needs and budget.
Health coverage is available to everyone. Through Covered California, you can compare and shop for private health plans and see if you qualify for financial assistance to help pay for your coverage.
Open Enrollment
California’s open enrollment period for health coverage runs from November 1, 2025, through January 31, 2026. If you enroll by December 15, 2025, your coverage can begin as soon as January 1, 2026.
During this time, you can also find out if you qualify for Medi-Cal, which provides free or low-cost coverage and is open for enrollment year-round.
Covered California offers a variety of plans from trusted providers, and many Californians qualify for financial assistance to lower their monthly premiums and out-of-pocket costs. Covered California’s competitive marketplace gives consumers the ability to shop around for the best value and choose a plan that fits their family’s needs.
How to Enroll
There are several ways to apply or renew your coverage:
Enroll: If you do not have health insurance through an employer, you can apply for a plan through Covered California and may qualify for financial assistance.
Renew: If you want to keep your plan and your income has not changed, your plan will automatically renew. You can still review new plans and prices to ensure you have the best fit for your needs.
Change Your Plan: If you already have coverage through Covered California and want to choose a new plan, you can do so during open enrollment or if you qualify for a special enrollment period.
Get Help Enrolling
Covered California makes it easy to learn about your healthcare options and enroll in the plan that works best for you. There are thousands of Certified Insurance Agents, County Eligibility Workers, and Certified Enrollment Counselors available to provide free, confidential, in-person help in many languages.
You can also visit one of more than 200 storefronts across the state, where certified enrollers can work with you face-to-face to help you sign up or understand your coverage options.
