Project Kinship Recognized by Assemblymember Valencia As The 68th Assembly District Nonprofit Of The Year

For immediate release:

SACRAMENTO, CA – Assemblymember Avelino Valencia (D-Anaheim) has selected Project Kinship as the 2024 California Nonprofit of the Year for Assembly District 68.

Project Kinship is an organization dedicated to empowering individuals impacted by incarceration, gangs, and violence. Through collaboration, advocacy, and transformative programs, Project Kinship aims to create a brighter future for Orange County and beyond.

Steven Kim, Executive Director of Project Kinship, said “Healing isn’t erasing the past, it’s transforming it. The scars remain, but they no longer define. Project Kinship is proud to support our program participants in rewriting their narratives.”

In its ninth year, the California Nonprofit of the Year initiative continues to recognize the vital contributions of nonprofit organizations across the state. State legislators annually select a nonprofit from their district to be honored throughout the year, culminating in an annual luncheon at the Capitol in early June.

The ceremony is sponsored by CalNonprofits in collaboration with the state Senate and Assembly Select Committees on the Nonprofit Sector. CalNonprofits, the prominent policy advocate for California’s nonprofit sector, prioritizes advocacy, education, and research to strengthen a more influential and politically active nonprofit network throughout the state.

Assemblymember Valencia says, “Through Project Kinship, our community is able to build bridges, foster empathy, and promote unity. Project Kinship ensures participants’ path forward is grounded in resilience and compassion. Project Kinship’s work is critical in the 68th Assembly District and deserves this honor.”
